Green Rock Supports Armenia’s Candidature as World Region of Gastronomy 2028

Green Rock and Green Rock Foundation are proud to be part of Armenia’s journey to becoming a candidate for the World Region of Gastronomy 2028. By connecting environmental action, local governance, tourism, education, and the hospitality sector, we help ensure that Armenia’s rich food heritage contributes to resilient, inclusive, and future-oriented regional development.

The candidature is supported by a diverse network of stakeholders, including:

  • Dilijan Municipality – local governance and community engagement
  • Tavush DMO – responsible tourism and destination management
  • Youth Cooperation Center of Dilijan – youth participation, education, and social innovation
  • Association of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of Armenia – professional hospitality sector
  • Russian-Armenian University – research, knowledge exchange, and capacity building

Armenia has officially joined the World Region of Gastronomy Platform as a candidate for the 2028 Award, marking a historic first for the Caucasus. This milestone reflects the country’s growing commitment to cultural preservation, sustainable development, and community-led resilience.

Coordinated by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT), the Platform connects regions worldwide that recognize food as a driver of identity, education, social cohesion, and responsible tourism. Armenia will collaborate with other regions to promote sustainable food systems, local value chains, food education, youth empowerment, and intercultural dialogue.

The candidature was formally consolidated on 5 December with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, confirming a shared vision and governance framework. Armenian gastronomy, from mountain ingredients and traditional bread-making to festive cuisines and hospitality rituals, connects land, culture, and community, while sustaining rural livelihoods and intergenerational knowledge.

By joining the Platform, Armenia shows a forward-looking approach, seeing gastronomy as a living system that preserves heritage while supporting sustainability, education, and community cohesion. It offers an international stage to showcase the country’s creativity, rich food culture, and resilient, inclusive food systems. Green Rock shares this vision, recognizing gastronomy as a force that connects people, celebrates culture, and strengthens the ties between communities and the land.
